LIST’s mission

LIST develops competitive and market-oriented products and services for public and private stakeholders, and works across the entire innovation chain: fundamental and applied research, incubation, and transfer of technologies. By transforming scientific knowledge into technologies, smart data, and tools, LIST empowers citizens in their choices, public authorities in their decisions, and businesses in their strategies.

LIST is organised in four research departments: Environmental Research & Innovation (ERIN), IT for Innovative Services (ITIS), Materials Research and Technology (MRT) and the European Space Resource Innovation Center (ESRIC). Together with various institutional and private partners, LIST actively contributes to the reindustrialization of Luxembourg. LIST is not only active in building up long-lasting partnerships with key economic players in Luxembourg to consolidate the local presence, LIST is also developing a strategy of cooperation across Europe and worldwide to enhance Luxembourg’s visibility, industrial appeal, and welcome. We contribute building the Luxembourg of tomorrow.

Unbeatable funding schemes

Luxembourg has several funding schemes to support Luxembourg based startups, such as the Young Innovative Enterprise programme from the Ministry of Economy with up to 1.2M€ non-dilutive matching funding, the Fit4Start acceleration programme with up to 150K€ non-dilutive funding, or the FNR, Luxembourg's National Research Fund. One of the best sources of funding for technology development in the world.

Furthermore, as a leading financial European centre, Luxembourg hosts key actors and institutions such as the European Investment Bank and the European Investment Fund. And it also has a great Business Angels Network (LBAN) and Luxembourg Private Equity and Venture Capital Association (LPEA), alongside with public-private funds such as the Digital Tech Fund and the Luxembourg Future Fund. All of them support not only the Luxembourg startup ecosystem, but also interested investors and corporations willing to set up business activities in Luxembourg.

Cutting edge facilities

LIST has cutting-edge facilities that allow its scientists and researchers access to the latest lab hardware and software to carry out their experiments.

Furthermore, LIST has what we call Innovation Centers, specific vertical research innovation centres. Such as the Green Tech Innovation Center, the Sustainable Composites Center, and AIDA, the AI and Data analytics platform. LIST is currently building three new Innovation Centres dedicated to Hydrogen, Quantum Computing, and Digital Twins.

The researchers have the experience and knowledge to make our technological solutions a reality. We provide the means.

Scientific excellence

LIST is a Technology Centre with about 650 employees. And despite having a lower number of employees than other European technology centres, the results are very satisfactory:

  • - Around 1-2 spin-offs per year
  • - More than 500 researchers
  • - More than 100 national research projects
  • - Around 50 European competitive projects
  • - More than 200 active patent families
  • - Around 170+ projects in collaboration with industrial partners
  • - Around 250 scientific articles in 1st quartile journals

Tech and business mentors

LIST Ventures is LIST's deep tech Venture Building arm. A group of Business, IP, Marketing specialists supporting LIST spin-offs all the way. From the idea creation, through the first prototypes and validations with customers, until the final launch of the company.

LIST Ventures works hand in hand with the founders because we consider ourselves co-founders of the company as well. And our main goal as a deep tech Venture Builder is that our spin-offs become what we call an INML (International Niche Market Leader). This INML approach means continuously developing products and technologies over time to keep your leading position in the market while keeping your competitors aside, while having close tights and roots with Luxembourg.

We are LIST Ventures, and we have skin in the game.
